| About us | The Officers...The Mary Cook Award | ||||||||
Our membership of 130 is drawn mainly from the Brentwood area but some singers travel from a much wider area, drawn by our high standards and the reputation of the choir and its Musical Director, Tim Hooper. The members are friendly and the Society holds social events from time to time to increase funds and to bring the membership closer together. The Society is a registered charity governed by a Constitution. Its management is through a committee comprising 4 officers (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary) and ordinary members all of whom are elected by the choir membership at the AGM which takes place in October. Our main concert venue is The International Hall at the prestigious Brentwood Centre which has a capacity of almost 2,000 which we have managed to fill on occasions. Many of our concerts are accompanied by the Aurelian Ensemble, a locally based orchestra of professional freelance players. If you have any questions about the Society or would like more information, please get in touch. Write to
The Society set up and administers the Mary Cook Award
Scheme which aims to support young musicians principally in the primary
sector and those who have decided to pursue a career in music at university.
Nominations are sought throughout the year for annual grants to primary
schools and in the summer term for candidates for the occasional bursaries
which are awarded. Brentwood Arts Council also provides finance towards
the Awards made. |
